Preparation for transvaginal ultrasound
For transvaginal ultrasound of the female genital organs, special preparation (filling of the bladder) is
not required. It is recommended to conduct an ultrasound examination of the female genital organs in the first half of the menstrual cycle (usually on the 5-7th day),
since in the second half of the cycle the endometrium of the uterus is in the secretory phase, which can lead to incorrect interpretation of results. However,
there are exceptions. Thus, in endometriosis, transvaginal ultrasound of the uterus is recommended to be performed in the second phase of the cycle; in order to evaluate folliculogenesis (the formation and development of ovarian follicles), the study should be carried out on the 5th-9th, 11th-14th and 15th days of the menstrual cycle.
If transvaginal ultrasound is performed during pregnancy, the patient's bladder should be moderately filled (about an hour before the test, you need to drink about 500 ml of liquid).
A prerequisite for transvaginal ultrasound of the pelvic organs is the absence of gas in the intestine. To ensure this, 2-3 days before the study, it is necessary to limit the products that cause increased gas formation (vegetables, fruits, bread, confectionery). Along with the above recommended medication, reducing gas formation in the intestine.
